The goal to make fitted sofa slipcover is not only to provide new appearance of your living and bedroom but also to make easier to clean and wash the cover. Of course, common covers are not handmade. It is commercial or fabric made so it is difficult for many homeowners to find right one that suits to your sofa.

People may think, it can be daunting to make fitted one because it requires sewing process and need details particularly on single stitch. You do not worry about it because the some fabric covers do not to be form fitted and the only you need to tuck it a little more in order to get new style of slipcover. In fact, it is easy to do as long as you prepare hour time and tools to complete this task, like repairing kitchen faucet.

Making accurate measurement

The first thing to do is to measure your sofa accurately from all sides, over arms, the down to floor, back, left and right based on the sofa contours. It is advised to add new clearance as 6 inches to total measurement of length for margins of the seams to avoid error on fitting, double the number and multiply it by 2. The cushions of all sides also need to measure by that way.

Slipcover material preparation

If the material is made of cotton, it will be good idea to wash and shrink it first. Ironing it out is a must if you find it still damp and has wrinkles. Yes, wrinkles can cause disturbing appearance or pattern.

Focusing on slipcover pattern

To conform to general shape, you should drape, tuck loosely and press it following the sofa surface or contours. Cheap muslin and paper are recommended to use in draping process. The, you should put on the slipcover on flat surface and mark by making chalk lines as stitching road and safety pins, so you can cover all sections and patterns to make general shape.

Sewing process

It is time to use sewing machine to sew and stitch the sofa slipcover by following chalk lines. Pin them to get excellent tailor fit. For good finishing look, it is advised to hem all sections and slip the cushion into cover side. Make sure to fit all sections before pinning the covers. For denim slipcovers, you need needle for size 16.
