How to Make and Build Your Own Wooden Box

Knowing how to make a wooden box can inspire you to make some designs such as with sliding lid, drawers beautiful frame and other style that make it look vintages. It can be awesome DIY projects if you are interesting to do woodworking. It is not hard to do even with simple and minimal equipment as long as you understand to plan and assemble it.

Here are steps-by steps of making wooden box. You can follow these below instructions to get awesome results.

Preparing your basic carpentry


Saw (you can use other power hand tools), hammer, clamps (corner and A), pencil with safety glasses, measuring tape, wood glue, nails and woods.

Deciding on Type of Wood


You must be determining the type of woods that you want to make as wooden box. Every wood has its own characteristic even the machining or working ability. For harder one to cut, you can use power tool.

Getting accurate measurement


It is time to measure and mark on all sides of wood (including bottom and top) that you are going to cut.

Cutting and drilling nail holes


After measurement you can cut it carefully with circular saw. You can give allowance as depth of box so there will be enough space to cover on board width. Then, drill some pilot holes, close to edge of wood. Do it properly to avoid the head snipped off.

Joining Process


You can push two pieces woods (vertical and horizontal one) for making L shape, stick together and use butt joints, nails and screws to attach them tightly. Designing counter sinking can be made by using punch. Make it flush to wood surface by sanding wood upon the nails and screws.

For better appearance, you can make a lid for box by taking a wood piece to top side of box. For bottom side, it can be applied but you should do it carefully while sawing the cut below the fasteners. For perfect color combination, you can spray paint it that meets color schemes on its sourroundings.
